About the CodeLifter Forum

The CodeLifter Forum is a question and answer forum about code you did not write yourself. That covers code an assistant produced from your prompt, a snippet copied from an old tutorial, an agent that edited files while you watched, and a pull request that arrived with no clear author. You ask a specific question, quote what you used and what came back, and you get an answer that names the prompt line, the record or the setting that matters.

The forum sits alongside codelifter.com, the reference site. The reference site carries vibe coding prompts with the code they should produce, sourced answers on AI-generated code, and a directory of MCP servers, skills and coding agents. The reference site explains the general case. The forum is where your particular prompt, repository or tool gets looked at.

A note on ownership

CodeLifter.com was a free cut-and-paste JavaScript library published by CodeBrain.com from about 1999 to 2016. It was restored in 2026 by independent editors. The current CodeLifter is not affiliated with CodeBrain.com or with any earlier owner of the domain, and does not speak for them or claim their work. The forum is new and has no history before 2026.

What we cover

There are five sections, and each one is for questions.

  • Prompts. Prompts that keep producing bad code, such as innerHTML where text would do, controls with no keyboard support, or a library nobody asked for. Answers show the prompt line that fixes it.
  • Provenance. Who or what wrote a piece of code, how to show it, and what detectors can and cannot tell you. Answers cite the papers and records they rely on.
  • Policy. Project and workplace rules for AI-written code: which projects ban it, how to disclose it in commits, and how teams enforce a rule.
  • MCP and tools. MCP servers, agent skills and coding agents: what each one can read, write or reach, how to scope it, and how to keep a mistake contained.
  • Script Shelf. The old cut-and-paste scripts from the original library: what happened to them, what replaced them, and whether an old snippet still runs.

Who answers

Staff answers are written by the CodeLifter editors, which is the only staff account on the forum. There are no other staff and no personas. Staff answers are drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by an editor before they are posted, and each one links the documents it relies on. Every staff post carries a visible Staff label, so you can always tell when you are reading the editors and not another reader. Readers can ask questions and reply, and a good reply from a reader counts for as much as one from staff.

How answers handle sources

A claim about what a tool does, what a licence allows or what a project's rules say should come from something you can check. Staff answers link the documentation, the policy page, the paper or the repository they rely on, and say so when the only source is a vendor's own description. Assistants and tools change between versions, so answers name the tool and the version where it matters, and say plainly when a result may not carry over.

Licence

Code in staff answers is released under the MIT licence unless the answer states otherwise. The text of staff answers is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, the same terms as codelifter.com/licence/. Members keep ownership of their own posts, as described in the terms of use.

Corrections

If an answer is wrong or out of date, tell us. When we correct a staff answer, we add a dated note in the thread saying what changed and why. You can reach the editors at editor@codelifter.com, and the contact page explains what to include.
